I just got a Gretsch USA Custom kit with 30 degree bearing edges and this in my opinion blows away the sound of my "other" drumsets with 45 degree edges. I can't believe the difference. Any opinions or comments on this "bearing" issue?

bearing edges
any time you can take somthing away to add tone is a good thing. close proxcemiitry is important to location is to speed is to method. The elimination of rim shots on a speedy drum fill is cool if the 30 degree pitch allows this great. I would imagine this is an older kit with that style of engineering on the rims cool shread.. why other manufactuories do not cosider this application versues the 90 degree rim now is beyond me.. kiss keep it simple stupid would apply to drum makers..

bearing edges
this is a recent fanomanom to me. for as long as i've been playing, i never thought about the bearing edges.one of my kits i've had for 15yrs, it still sounds great,i couldn't even think what degre of an edge it has.now i'm not knocking it,and i beleave it's important but i only started in the past 5 or so years hearing about it.i just figured it was a factory thing. i don't understand what a 30% vs. a 90% difference in sound has.i never figured anything but the wood mattered and after that head selection and technique. this is interesting, could you guys explain more?
